A MESSAGE FROM MR LITCHFIELD

GRANGEFIELD SCHOOL’S NEW HEADTEACHER

(Mr Mansfield retires at the end of this academic year).

I am very pleased to be coming to Grangefield in September.  Although originally from London, I have spent most of my life in the North-East.     I have worked in schools in Stockton and Hartlepool as well as having spent some time as an advisory teacher in Cleveland.  At present, I am in my seventh year as the Headteacher of an 11-16 community school in Sunderland, which is a business and enterprise specialist college.

My priorities in September will include maintaining the concern for the safety and welfare of students that has been a feature of Grangefield School and building on the current achievements to ensure further success.  I have no doubts about the strength of the staff and the potential of the students and I am sure we shall see continuing success at all levels.

I am looking forward to meeting parents in the coming months and will make time to get to know the school community before I take up my post in the new school year.

Fashion Show

Another fantastic evening! Once again a packed school hall was enthralled by the wonderful creations of Year 10 and 11 Art / Textiles students. The audience was also entertained by the year 10 rock band! Once again an excellent evening - we can't wait for next year!

Annual Carol Service at St Peter's Church

Once again, there was a large turnout for this annual event, which takes the format of Nine Lessons and Carols. The standard of both reading and singing was very good this year. One highlight is the performance of the Hallelujah chorus; it really feels that Christmas is here!

Grangefield completes a successful 'Ofsted' inspection.

Following the visit of Ofsted at the start of the month, we are delighted to report that Grangefield is officially a "good" school, with no aspects identified as satisfactory. This is a tremendous achievement, and is a reflection of all the work of both staff and pupils over the last few years. A full copy of the report can be found on the Ofsted page of this website.

Grangefield celebrates ‘Best Ever GCSE Results’.

Once again the exam performance of Grangefield pupils has exceeded expectations. This summer’s GCSE results saw a staggering 182 pupils achieve the 5+A*-C grade threshold; this represents 68% of the cohort. This figure is 15% up on last year, and 4% better than our previous best of 64% in 2005. This now means that over two thirds of Grangefield pupils left with exam grades that gave them real choices at Post 16 level.

All the other key indicators showed improvement as well; 44% of the cohort achieved 5+A*-C grades including English and Maths (an increase of 10% on 2006) and the number of pupils achieving 5+A*-G grades rose to 96%. What is most encouraging is that no pupil left without at least one level 1 qualification.

These results reflect the hard work and commitment of the pupils, supported by their parents and the dedicated and hard-working staff of Grangefield School.
